Our concept was to build the largest trailer-legal fishing boat that one person could reasonably launch and haul. That suggested a vessel around 23’ long, which Hawai‘i fishermen said, "Sounds right!" By the time every feature was included and every design aspect refined, however, the LOA was 23’10". So we named it the Makau 23 (not 24), under-promising and over-delivering specifications.

Then we maxed it out with a 9’ beam, resulting in a bigger work platform than almost any boat under 30’! Displacement? Also big: 500 to 700 pounds heavier than most boats of similar length. The results? Stability. Payload capacity. Performance.
