Hawai‘i fishermen have a variety of preferences in what powers their boats, so in the design of the Makau 23, we have accommodated every usual possibility. Boat building is our principal business, but in many instances, our working relationships with marine engine manufacturers may allow us to offer you important savings when you buy a Makau, especially if we handle the powering installation. In any event, the two most common engine configurations require no extra hull build-out costs.

Initially, we will be demonstrating a twin Evinrude E-TECH O/B installation with an Armstrong transom extension bracket, and a single Yanmar diesel.

Five Basics

The DRY HAWAIIAN Hull of the Makau 23 can accommodate all of the five basic powering configurations outlined below.

  1. Single I/O is standard issue; diesel or gas (twins are optional as a custom build-out)
  2. Traditional O/B transom-well is also standard issue; single or twin engines
  3. O/B transom extension bracket is optional; single or twin engines; (see, www.armstrongnautical.com for features and performance enhancement data); underwater lights (in platform or hull) and swim ladders are also available optionally
  4. V-Drive diesel: single screw in a tunnel hull w/ transom-hung rudder; optional as a custom build-out
  5. Traditional straight-shaft inboard diesel, single screw in a tunnel hull with transom-hung rudder; optional as a custom build out
